Ligament injury/ Tendinopathy

Due to Dr. Bowman's dual training in both hand surgery and foot surgery, we have employed a new unique functional approach to repair and rehabilitation of tendon injuries in the foot and ankle.  This is similar to the approach used in the hand and wrist.  Dr. Bowman also pioneered the use of the active artificial flexor tendon in Pittsburgh after training with Dr. Hunter, the inventor. He has authored research articles on the artificial tendon together with Dr. Hunter. He has also lectured nationally and written several book chapters on sports tendon injuries to the posterior tibial tendon and Achilles' tendon.  Included below are some of the tendon problems that we treat at the Pittsburgh Foot and Hand Center.

  • FCR tendonitis

  • ECU tendonitis

  • Dequervains tendonitis

  • lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)

  • medial epicondylitis (golfers elbow)

  • gamekeeper's thumb (UCL tear)

  • flexor tendon laceration

  • extensor tendon laceration

  • intersection syndrome

  • scapholunate ligament tear

  • lunotriquetral ligament tear

  • posterior tibial tendinopathy/tear

  • Achilles tendon tear

  • chronic Achilles tendinopathy

  • FHL tendinopathy

  • spring ligament injury

  • chronic ankle instability

  • peroneal tendinopathy/tear

  • peroneal tendon subluxation

  • plantar fasciitis

  • turf toe
